What is a Digital Product Passport (DPP)?

A unique digital identity for each physical product unit, bound to an NFC tag on the item. Tapping the tag with any modern smartphone opens that unit's public passport page — authenticity confirmation, brand and model, provenance, warranty status and care or recycling information — with no app installation required.

How is the NFC tag linked to a product?

In the Identium platform you create the product master (brand, model, specifications, images), then mint a passport for each unit with its serial number. The NFC tag is bound to the passport from the NFC manager — one tap workflow — and from then on the tag resolves to that unit's page.

What does the customer see when they tap?

A public passport page for that exact unit: product details and imagery, verified-authentic status, the lifecycle events the brand chooses to publish (manufacture, sale, services), and a button to raise a service or warranty request directly against that unit.

Can service and warranty requests be tracked through it?

Yes. A customer can raise a service request from the public page without logging in; your team sees it against the exact unit with its full history, can comment, update status and log the service as a lifecycle event on the passport.

Is this compliant with the EU ESPR Digital Product Passport rules?

The platform implements the DPP model the EU regulation is built on — a data carrier on the product resolving to a per-unit record — and NFC is one of the four carrier types listed in EN 18220. The delegated acts that fix final per-sector data fields are still being adopted (batteries first, textiles expected 2027-28), so no vendor can honestly stamp "ESPR certified" today; what you can do is run your passport programme now so the per-unit data habit, tagging line and customer experience are proven before compliance becomes mandatory.
